Dumfries and Galloway College has announced plans for a new bakery training area at its Stranraer campus.
The college bakery has been confirmed thanks to a generous grant of £14,046 from the Savoy Educational Trust.
Once complete, the new facility will see the installation of specialist bakery ovens as well as full and part-time bakery courses and qualifications becoming available.
In addition, the new development will boost the already excellent hospitality offering at the South of Scotland college’s Stranraer campus.
The Savoy Educational Trust is an independent grant giving charitable trust which aims to promote education, training, and qualifications in the hospitality sector.
Dumfries and Galloway is incredibly grateful to the Savoy Educational Trust for its generosity and looks forward immensely to this development and the new and exciting opportunities it will bring for students.
Chef Lecturer Carole McShane said:
“I’m delighted to welcome the news of this development for our Stranraer campus.
“The facilities it will bring will allow us to further improve our hospitality learning and teaching and will be of real benefit to our students.“I’d also like to thank the Savoy Educational Trust for their generous grant, it means so much to my colleagues and I.”
Principal Joanna Campbell added:
“Dumfries and Galloway College already boasts an excellent hospitality offer and we can’t wait to add this latest development to that.
“Our new college bakery will provide the South of Scotland with a place in which aspiring bakers can learn their craft and build their future careers in a supportive environment which is equipped with everything they need.
“On behalf of our entire college community, I would like to thank the Savoy Educational Trust for their generosity in providing this grant.”
