Our region’s first ever Business Week takes place from Monday 27 October to Friday 31 October across the region.
A wide variety of events is taking place across the week including a specialist retail workshop, Inspiring Entrepreneurs event aimed at 18- 30 year old new or existing Entrepreneurs, Ecommerce Marketing workshops through to specialist HR and Tax workshops. There is also a Women into Business event and other Networking events which include Inspirational speakers from the region who will share their knowledge and expertise to assist your business to grow and flourish.
Councillor Colin Smyth Chair of the Council’s Economy Environment and Infrastructure committee said: “Building the local economy is the number one priority of our Council administration. To reflect this in partnership with other Business agencies we are leading on our region’s first ever Business week. The week will provide all businesses across Dumfries and Galloway the opportunity to attend free events and workshops aimed at supporting our region’s businesses and sectors to grow and flourish. There will also be advice and support for Entrepreneurs of all ages, and in particular our young Entrepreneurs with the advice support that will help you start your own business. I would urge anyone who already has a business, or if you are thinking about starting a business to check the events schedule and attend as many events as possible.”
In Dumfries there are a wide variety of events including:
• A Specialist Retail Support Workshop in the Cairndale Hotel on 27 October from 1.00pm to 4.00pm
• Inspiring Entrepreneurs event at Gracefield Arts Centre from 6.30 – to 9.00pm on 27 October for 18-25 year olds either already in Business or thinking about starting a Business.
• Forestry Contractors Training at The Barony Campus Parkgate Dumfries on 27 October from 5.30pm to 8.00pm.
• Growth strategy Workshop at the Cairndale Hotel, Dumfries on 28th October from 1.00pm to 3.30pm
In Annandale and Eskdale in partnership with the Council’s CX project there are a number of events including:
• Effective Email Marketing Strategies at The Corner House Hotel Annan from 1.00pm to 4.30pm on 27 October – here how your business can benefit from email marketing
• Facebook strategy for Business on 27 October at The Corner House Hotel from 5.30pm to 8.00pm this is a very interactive workshop giving you the tools to use Facebook effectively to market your business.
• Self- Assessment Workshop – on 29 October at the Queensberry Arms Hotel from 1.30pm to 4.30pm – find out all you need to know about registering as self –employed and self-assessment.
In Wigtownshire there are a wide variety of events including:
• Business Information and Networking Event at The Creebridge House Hotel Newton Stewart on 29 October from 6.00pm to 9.00pm.. This free networking event which includes a Buffet supper has expert speakers providing information on exporting, Intellectual copyright through to Business opportunities in the Biosphere. There is also a question and answer session where you can ask the experts from the agencies any specific questions your business may have.
• Interactive question and answer session form the Business Gateway Tax expert on 30 October from 9.30 am to 11.30 am at WRDC offices Newton Stewart. Your opportunity to ask any question you may have on NI.VAT and PAYE real time.
• ‘You are what you tweet’ at WRDC offices Newton Stewart on 30 October from 1.00pm to 4.00pm- this is an introduction to how you can make the most effective use of Twitter for your Business
• Employing people on 29 October at the Millennium Centre Stranraer from 11.00 to 1.00pm. a specialist HR adviser will provide advice on how to employ staff.
