Members of the public are being invited to take part in a hands-on, multi-sensory activity with the aim of connecting with nature and learning new things at the three Regional Gardens of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE). Outdoor learning and play ranger, Barbara Middleton, will be at Benmore in Argyll, Logan in Dumfries & Galloway and Dawyck Botanic Garden in Scottish Borders this Spring, bringing fun activities for families to learn and have fun.
One of the exciting activities is making your very own botanical fortune teller, giving you prompts and tasks to do around the Garden. Drop-in sessions for Engaging Gardens are taking place over 2 days in April in each Garden. Starting at Logan on 9th-10th, the activities continue at Dawyck 16th-17th and finally Benmore 23rd-24th.
Although not necessary, a challenge before participants take part in Engaging Gardens is to make your own magnifying glass at home and bring it with you on the day, crafted from recycled materials.
Barbara explained “Engaging Gardens invites people to stop, look and explore with sight, sound, touch and smell. It aims at getting people to visit the Gardens and see them in a different light after finishing the activities. The aim is to encourage an interest in the importance of plants and trees in a range of fun, interactive activities. Visitors will learn new ways to safeguard our environment together to keep our planet healthy”.
