Queens Ladies faced Kilwinning Ladies on Sunday in the last 16 of the League cup. Queens opened the scoring on 17 minutes when Holly Ovens was up-ended in the box and she stepped up to fire home the penalty. Queens were winning the midfield battle and scored a fantastic goal on 29 minutes when Kirsty McDonald shot home from an acute angle after a great through ball by Abbie Dunlop.
The second half was again controlled by Queens. Kirsty Macdonald scored Queens’ 3rd goal in the 49th minute, a terrific dipping shot from outside the box. With the Queens midfielders and defenders working tirelessly to deny Kilwinning many clear chances, and with Sophie Ingram in fine form when the ball came her way, Queens rarely looked like conceding. Queens completed the scoring in the 81st minute when Holly Ovens pounced on a loose ball in the box and flicked it over the keeper and into the far corner of the net to make the final score 4-0 to Queens.
