In a major cultural and economic coup for Dumfries and Galloway, the Robert Burns World Federation will hold their Annual Conference and Annual General Meeting in the Cairndale Hotel in Dumfries from 9th –11th September 2022.
The RBWF, founded in 1885, is the oldest literary society in Scotland. It connects Burnsians the world over and fosters a band of fellowship. It aims to educate, promote and celebrate the life and works of Robert Burns, Scots heritage, language, music and culture.
It is anticipated that delegates from all over the U.K. will be joined by around 40 members from Canada, the U.S.A. and Australia. Over 100 residential delegates will be joined by a large number of day delegates from the Burns world in Dumfries and Galloway and Ayrshire.
A packed weekend of events has been planned with Dumfries being chosen as the venue for its rich connection with Robert Burns and many sites of interest to visit. As well as guided walking tours of the Burns Quarter in the town, other cultural visits are planned to Ellisland Farm, the first home of Robert Burns in Dumfriesshire, and Annandale Distillery. Short talks and lectures will be held in the hotel to ensure there is something for everyone. The famous Calgary Burns Singers will perform after the Friday night dinner and chains of office will be exchanged at the Gala Dinner on the Saturday night.
