Guid Nychburris Principals Visit DGRI

DAYS before the first Guid Nychburris parade in three years, the Guid Nychburris principals visited Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary on Thursday 16th June and met staff and patients – of all ages.

This year’s parade is the first since the COVID-19 pandemic, and, appropriately, it has a strong medical flavour. This year’s Pursuivant is consultant haematologist Dr Ranjit Thomas, and the Cornet’s Lass is healthcare support worker Robyn Peden.

Also visiting were this year’s Queen of the South, Kady Kirkpatrick, and her attendants Derri Love and Casey Gilmour, all from Northwest Community Campus; Cornet Ross Findlater; this year’s Lynors Cameron Robertson, Robert Neill, William Black and Ross Boyd; and Guid Nychburris vice-chairman Alan Moffat, who was presented with a cup in appreciation of his forty years’ involvement with Guid Nychburris.  Their host was clinical manager Bill Irving.

The Principals visited the children’s ward and met Beatrice Woods, one of the patients, in the ward’s outdoor play area. In the day surgery ward they paid a surprise visit to patient Selena Wilson, and then went on to meet nursing staff in the oncology ward and laboratory staff in the hospital’s haematology laboratory.
