Alan Somerville, Senior Development Officer of Cunninghame Housing Association, recently presented a cheque for £1,000 to Club members David and Mary Mackie along with George Shepherd, Committee member of Annan Petanque Club.
The Annan Petanque Club is a newly formed sports Club dedicated to the construction of a terrain (pitch), store and equipment necessary to provide the facility of playing Petanque in Annan. The sport is truly inclusive in that there is no segregation in relation to age, gender and/or ability.
The funding provided by Cunninghame Housing Association will assist with the costs of material required to create the terrain with works due to begin in the coming weeks. The nearest pitch for people of Annan to use is in Moffat which is a sixty-mile round trip, therefore, to have one in Annan would encourage more people to play and would be more community based, benefiting the whole community of all ages and abilities.
Frank Sweeney, Group Chief Executive of CHA commented, “Cunninghame Housing Association are pleased to be supporting the newly formed Annan Petanque Club which will benefit so many people of all ages whilst encouraging a sport that involves being out in the fresh air, exercise and social interaction.”
The funding for Annan Petanque came from the Associations “Making Our
Communities a Better Place Fund” which operates throughout the year (1 st April to 31 st March) until the allocated funding is exhausted.
