POLICE WARNING ABOUT FUEL THEFTS IN DUMRIES AND GALLOWAY

FUEL THEFTS WARNING

Police Scotland is reminding home owners of some simple security measures that can be put in place to protect their fuel. At this time of year people are re filling their oil tanks ready for the winter, and unfortunately this means that there can be more instances of heating oil theft. To raise awareness and provide some security improvements, local police have issued an advice leaflet which householders should receive when they take delivery of their next order.

Sergeant Emma Dodds said ‘These crimes can be very expensive for a homeowner, but there are some simple security measures that people can put in place to deter criminals and protect their fuel. These include regularly checking your oil levels, fitting an appropriate security device and consider screening your tank from open view or laying gravel around the tank to act as a deterrent’. We would also ask that people be vigilant, if you see any people or vehicles that are acting suspiciously that you take a note of the details and contact the police.
