Annandale East and Eskdale Councillor and Armed Forces Champion Archie Dryburgh MBE has spoken of his pride in being appointed as Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Civic Head at a meeting of the full council today (Friday 3 February).
Councillor Archie Dryburgh said, “It is a real privilege to have been appointed as the Civic Head of the Council. It has been an honour to be our Council’s Armed Forces Champion and I am looking forward to continuing this role and building on it by representing our council and flying the flag for Dumfries and Galloway. Our region has so much to be proud of, and so much to offer as a great place to live, work, visit and invest.
“I want to thank Linda Doward for her tireless work as Council Co-Leader laying the foundation for a new council draft plan. Linda has brought a wealth of experience and a passionate commitment to public services, which I know will be invaluable in the new role as Chair of the Council’s Communities Committee. Although Labour are stepping back from the political leadership of the council, we are determined to ensure that Labour’s commitments to protect local services and support families facing a cost of living crisis will be at the heart of the that plan”.
The full council agreed to continue the practise that councillors from all four groups on the council should chair council committees, whether part of the administration or not. Lochar Ward Councillor Linda Dorward was appointed to Chair the Council’s Communities Committee.
Councillor Linda Dorward said, “Civic Head of the Council necessitates a particular skill set and I believe that Archie has the experience and skills to do justice to this role. I am looking forward to the challenge of my new role as Chair of the Communities Committee, combined with my primary role as local councillor for Lochar and will be working to ensure Labour’s manifesto pledges are taken forward for the people of Dumfries and Galloway”.
