It was a local derby for Queens Ladies on Sunday as they took on Annan Athletic Ladies in the Biffa SWFL (South) league.
Queens started the game well and opened the scoring in the first minute through Megan Hodgson. Megan added a second goal in the 5th minute and Queens continued to have the better of the play against a stuffy Annan side. It took until the 29th minute for Queens to add a third goal when Holly Ovens was on hand to turn a cross into the corner of the net from close range. Two minutes later, Megan Hodgson completed her hat trick to give Queens a 4-0 half time lead.
Queens continued in the same vein for the first quarter of the second half, Megan Hodgson getting the 5th goal after 51 minutes. Holly Ovens added a sixth on 61 minutes, racing into the area on the left hand side and firing a dipping shot over the keeper. A minute later, Megan Hodgson got her 5th goal of the game and Queens’ 7th with a powerful shot across the keeper into the far top corner. Final score Queens 7 Annan 0, and Queens maintain their 100% league record.
This Sunday, Queens Ladies travel to Stewarton for a clash with second-placed Stewarton, also still unbeaten but two points behind Queens after dropping two points in one of their fixtures. It promises to be a fiercely contested game. Kick off at Stewarton is 12.15.
