The season’s best bowling figures helped Nunholm to a battling three wicket win at St Ninians in the Championship.
The Lochthorn Medical Player of the Match was Trevor Newport with 6 wickets for 31. That restricted the home side to 213. Callum Reynolds-Lewis bowled well to dismiss Prestwick’s two top scorers. James Cox and junior Nairn Cubbon each claimed an early wicket.
Nairn was also key in the eventual win. Nunholm were a long way adrift at 114 for 6 when his sixty-run partnership with Cox was crucial. Earlier Andy Reed with 37, Wahid Jabarkhil (33) and Mackenzie Staples (21), all made contributions but without the big score. Cubbon was caught for 22 but Cox with 30 not out and Danny Armstrong 20 not out gave Nunholm a win with an all-round team effort.
In the Premiership, Your Move Dumfries put Prestwick in at Nunholm and the bowlers kept the visitors in check. Alan Davidson struck early, and Chris Brockwell conceded just 12 runs in his ten overs and took the second wicket. Keeper Fergus Bainbridge brilliantly ran out Chaudhary for 38 and James Hobman stayed the side’s top wicket taker, and in the top ten in in the league, with two. At 142 for 6 with ten overs left there was the opportunity of a lower score. However, Du Randt progressed to 50 and Singh hit seven boundaries in his 45 as Prestwick finished 220 all out.
Then, with Dumfries at 68 for 2, opening bowler Du Randt got his third wicket and opener Adam Malik was bowled after the 25 over break for the top score of 35. That was the first wicket to the spin of Chaudhary as he went on to take five wickets. Beveridge hit 23, Davidson 22 and Bainbridge was 13 not out but Dumfries wilted to 137 all out. Alan Davidson picked up the Lochthorn Medical Player of the Match award for his all-round performance.
