The pupils of Kirkcudbright Primary School have been working on an interactive and video-filled guide to Kirkcudbright, ideal for visitors to the area or local residents wanting to know more about the town. The ‘Our Guide to Kirkcudbright’ includes attractions including the Castle, Barrhill Woods and artist’s homes, with videos filmed on site by the pupils.
The leaflet has been distributed to pupils and families and will be available at Kirkcudbright Tourist Information centre. QR codes on the leaflet lead users to the videos recorded by the pupils.
Mr Stevens, Head Teacher of Kirkcudbright Primary School, led the project, and said:
“It was a lovely project to do, the children really engaged in writing about, and promoting their town. We identified a need for a guide that would engage families and children, using QR was new to us, but we learnt quickly. We hope visitors and local people enjoy our fun and informative guide to Kirkcudbright.”
Galloway Glens Education & Community Engagement Officer, Jan Hogarth, said:
“Mr Stevens, Head Teacher at Kirkcudbright Primary School, had the most fantastic idea of creating a map for kids from kids about the town. It is really imaginative, with the children introducing their favourite places in Kirkcudbright via a series of film clips which are linked to QR codes in the map. For visitors it is so unusual to go to a new place and have the children who live in that town share their enthusiasm and knowledge with humour and so creatively. We were delighted to be able to use some of our funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Drax – owners of the Galloway Hydro Scheme – to fund the design and print of the leaflets. What an innovative initiative well done to everyone involved.”
