The volunteers at Kippford RNLI are excited to throw open the doors to the lifeboat station once more as the popular open day returns. On Saturday 22nd July 2023 visitors will have the chance to visit the station, see the lifeboat up close and meet some of the crew.
The last open day was held in 2019 and was a huge success with visits from neighbouring lifeboats including Kirkcudbright RNLI, Workington RNLI, Silloth RNLI, Nith Rescue and Maryport Inshore Rescue. Visitors were treated to the rare sight of all the lifeboats in action together on the Kippford estuary.
The 2023 open day will take place from 1pm until 4pm with visits planned from the neighbouring lifeboats subject to weather and operational commitments. It’s hoped that there will be a demonstration on the water with as many boats as possible. There will be tea and cakes available in the station for visitors and the chance to talk to an RNLI water safety representative and members of the Portling Coastguard Rescue Team.
Laura Wilson, Lifeboat press Officer said: “I hope that as many people as possible take the chance to come and visit the station. We’ve really missed being able to host open days and it’s a great opportunity to find out firsthand what we do here at Kippford. The shop will be open for purchases of souvenirs and gifts and all of the crew will be on hand to answer questions about our roles with the RNLI.”
In addition to the open day the crew have also organised a fundraising social evening. Taking place on Saturday 22nd July 2023 from 7.30pm in the Anchor Hotel, Kippford. Tickets for this event cost £15 and include a hot buffet and a DJ. Tickets are available via any of the crew or full details are available on the Kippford RNLI Facebook page.
