An exciting temporary exhibition opens on Dumfries High Street from Friday, 8th to Sunday 10th December. Local artist Karina Woldt will be exhibiting. She works mainly with oil paints and textured mixed media, and enjoys creating movement and depth in her art.
Karina said: “I’m really looking forward to bringing my work to the Smithy, and talking to people about what inspires me. I like drawing and expressing elements from nature in my art and working in a state of mindful flow. Capturing the mood and energy found in nature is currently the main focus of my work ”.
Originally from Munich, Germany, Karina studied figurative and landscape art, using oils and watercolors as her medium. Karina’s current work focuses on exploring nature-inspired pieces, from ocean scenes to paintings that draws from the Dumfries and Galloway landscape. Also strong expressive figurative works of resilience found in female characters is currently a theme in her works.
Karina is a keen supporter of mental health charities, and ten percent of profits from her painting and print sales will go to the local mental health charity Support in Mind Scotland. As a Psychologist she is aware that mental health charities form an integral support network to many people, especially during Christmas and New Year.
The exhibition takes place at the Smithy, High Street, Midsteeple Quarter, Dumfries, open from daily 1030-5pm. Part of the exhibition is a large Christmas craft fair, with hand painted silk scarves, aromatherapy candles, soaps, jewelry, and Christmas decorations, making it an ideal stop for festive shoppers.
The opening night exhibition is Friday 8th December, from 6.30pm, with music, drinks, and nibbles and art animations shown exclusively then. Karina will be present throughout the exhibition dates.
