New Photo Exhibition For Patients & Staff at DGRI

A new exhibition, Then & Now, has been unveiled at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary (DGRI), Ward C4.

The images displayed as part of the installation blend old Dumfries with the present-day. The exhibition has been created by Graeme Robertson of Centre for Practised Arts (CPA). It is part of the DG Creative Wellbeing Art in Healthcare project.

The exhibition aims to enrich the space at the end of the ward for both staff patients and visitors. The images show old photos overlayed and merged with new photos of the same locations in Dumfries. These showcase the changes and developments that have taken place. In some examples the differences are dramatic,in other cases, they are more subtle.

Various members of staff attended the launch on Monday 27 November.

The project is one of many initiatives by DG Creative Wellbeing across the region. The project has a full programme of artistic and cultural opportunities, events and activities that aim to enhance people’s wellbeing, communities, and healthcare environments.  More details are available on the new website – www.dgcreativewellbeing.co.uk

Frank Hayes, Art in Healthcare Coordinator – NHS/OutPost Arts said:

“The Then and Now installation has already been greatly received. It is creating conversations and inspiring patients and staff to reconnect with memories of the area. The photos spark memories old and new of Dumfries and its rich history contained in the buildings and people.”

Marsali Caig NHS Non-Executive Director said:

“The exhibition skilfully weaves together vintage and modern images, showcasing the transformations that have unfolded in and around Dumfries. The ‘Then & Now’ display has sparked a wave of interest among patients and staff on the ward, highlighting the impact of art on health and wellbeing. Collaborating with DG Creative Wellbeing on this project has truly been a delight.”
