In the first DGWGO rugby round-up of 2024 brought to you in partnership with Dumfries and Galloway Rugby podcast, get all the latest news from Newton Stewart RFC, Dumfries Saints, Annan RFC, Wigtownshire RFC, Langholm RFC and Moffat RFC.
Newton Stewart salvaged an unlikely after going 12 points down early on away to Peebles in National 2 to finish the game all square at 12-12. Still to this day, neither side has beaten the other away from home.
Dumfries Saints got their first away win of the season with a strong 22-12 win at Cartha Queens Park. The victory sees them extend their gap from the relegation zone in Scottish National 3.
In West 1, Annan suffered yet another loss at Violetbank, 38-14 to Lenzie, and now slip to the bottom of the table, three points adrift from Strathaven in 9th.
Dalziel proved to be too strong for an injury-plagued Wigtownshire as they ran out 26-14
winners on home soil. Shire, however, still sit mid-table and have games in hand on those
above them.
Langholm were convincingly put to the sword 64-16 by Portobello in East 1. They have just two games left in the season but are sitting comfortably in the middle of the pack.
Moffat made yet another big stride in their hunt for the West 3 title with a 35-26 away win at Lanark & Clydesdale. Scott Galloway bagged himself a hattrick, while David Sloan scored two and Max Douglas nailed all six of the conversions.
All of the women’s games that were scheduled over the weekend – Stewartry Sirens,
Wigtownshire Ladies, Annan Warriors and Dumfries Ladies, were all called off.
