Sharks Have Sweet & Sour Phantom Weekender

The Hercules Ice Hockey Apparel sponsored Solway Sharks faced off at home
against the Peterborough Phantoms on Saturday evening.

The game would prove to be an exciting one with both teams trading plenty of
chances in the opening period. Heading into the second period both teams remained
scoreless. The Sharks would strike first in the second period with a goal from Nolan
Gardiner. Not long after, Austin Mitchell-King found the back of the net to get the
Phantoms on the board to level the score. The Sharks would regain the lead with a
beautiful individual effort from captain Struan Tonnar. Goals from Lewis Young, Nolan
Gardiner, Caly Robertson and Scott Henderson would give the Sharks a comfortable
lead in the final period. However, the Phantoms would not go down without a fight as
they took advantage of a lapse in urgency from the Sharks side and would score
three quick goals to make the game interesting. Calum Hepburn stood tall and the
Sharks were able to fend off the last minute efforts from the Phantoms and hang on
to a 6-5 victory on home ice.

The Sharks faced off against the Phantoms the following evening in Peterborough
with hopes of securing a 4 point weekend. The Phantoms started off strong with lots
of pressure as they looked for retribution. Heading into the third period the Sharks
found themselves down by a pair of goals. Solway found their stride and started the
comeback off with a goal from Nolan Gardiner. Not long after, Lewis Young finished
off a nice pass from Scott Henderson to level the score at 3-3. Craig Peacock
showed great poise and was able to find the back of the net to give the Sharks their
first lead of the evening. Olivier Arseneau was then able to take advantage on the
powerplay and ripped a shot past Marr to extend the Sharks lead.

However, the Phantoms were far from finished as they were able to pull back into the
game with a goal from Tom Norton. With under a minute of play remaining in
regulation Stuart Kerr was penalised for a high stick. On the powerplay, and with the
goalie pulled, Ferrara was able to find Sladkovsky alone at the back door where he
made no mistake and pushed the game into extra time. After trading some chances
in overtime it was the Phantoms who were able to secure the 2 points through a
game winning goal from Ferrara.
