Scottish Fin and Foil Championships 2024 Returns To Loch Ryan, Stranraer

Following the immense success of the inaugural Scottish Fin and Foil Championships in 2023, the association is bringing this spectacular event back to Loch Ryan and Stranraer on Wednesday 7th to Sunday 11h August 2024.

This 5-day wind sports racing event for Windsurfers, Wing foilers, IQFOIL (hydrofoil) and Race board windsurfers, attracts competitors from across the UK with world renowned coaches and past international winners descending on the ideal coastal waters of Loch Ryan.

The event is the only 5-day wind sports racing event in the UK and is supported by RYA Scotland and the UKWA (UK Windsurfing Association) and will host about 80-90 sailors and their colourful sails and boards on Agnew Park beach.

In the year of the Olympics, many of the youth and adult wind sports enthusiasts are inspired by the highly anticipated success of GB IQFOIL representatives in Paris, Emma Wilson and Sam Sills. This event will have at least 4-6 races per day which can been seen from the shore by spectators. As well as racing, Scottish Fin and Foil are organizing taster sessions for the local community in the evenings particularly focused on the local kids to get involved.

Scottish Fin and Foil Chairperson, Danny Hawthorn, explained to BBC News Radio Dumfries and Galloway last year that Loch Ryan is “the perfect venue as it is central to the UK and accessible from Ireland with great reliable windy conditions”.

The event is being supported by Stranraer Watersport Association who have provided the vital links into the Stranraer Community and have supported with a high level of volunteer engagement, approximately 50-60 volunteers to support the sailors on both land and water.
