Local 71 year old Crossmichael man Jim McLelland has been working very hard to try and raise £100 Thosand pounds for The Aleaxandra unit at DGRI and the Dumfries & Galloway Health Board Endowment Fund.
Jim wanted to thank the local NHS team by raising funds in honor of his wife Ruth who was cared for at the DGRI Alexandra unit, but sadly passed away from cancer in December. Back in 1994 Jim’s first wife also lost the battle with cancer, and was cared for in the previous Alexandra unit.
back in July ex pub landlord Jim, organised ‘One Big Thank You event’, a charity challenge raising money for the health board charity as way of showing his appreciation of our local NHS staff who are there for us all when we need them the most.
Jims One Big Thank You event was a family friendly, free day of fun and celebration held at Carlingwark Park, Castle Douglas. On the day from 6am to 6pm walked, jogged and ran continuously round Carlingwark Park to raise money. And currently his Just Giving total is sitting at an amazing £19,246 of his original £100,000 target.
Jim said “What tremendous support there was for the One Big Thank You event, a huge thank you to everyone who helped organise the day, walked with me, gave their time and effort and came along on the day. There are too many to name individually but you know who you are.
The £100k was an ambitious target but I still say that if everyone in D&G pledges just a £1 then we would raise over £100K!!. It’s our local NHS and all funds raised will stay local for the benefit of us all who access the health services of NHS Dumfries and Galloway at some time in our life.
Thank you to those who have already donated and those that are still giving, I will leave the page open for a bit longer and if you have any feedback from the day or ideas about a future event then you could drop an email to [email protected] , the NHS D&G charity Fundraising Officer. Thank You again!”
