A pop-up shop will open in Dumfries town centre next week to spread the word about the support available to people applying for benefits.
Voice and rights charity VoiceAbility will be based at The Press in High Street from 10am to 4pm from Monday 2 September until Thursday 5 September, as part of Midsteeple Quarter’s community-led initiative to breathe new life into the town centre.
Independent advocates from the charity will be on hand over the four days to explain how they can support disabled people to access Social Security Scotland benefits.
The nationwide advocacy service also provides support for parents, guardians, or carers who are accessing benefits for a disabled child, and for those who are disabled and want support to access social security benefits for their child.
Advocate Maureen Jardine will be among those providing information and advice at the pop-up shop, which will have goody bags and refreshments for visitors.
The Dumfries resident – who will be joined by her eight-month-old golden labrador puppy, Theo – said: “If you think you might need support to apply for benefits, please do pop into our shop for a chat.
“We can support you to understand your options and needs, and do so in whatever way is best for you – whether that’s in person, online or over the phone.
“Me and Theo would love to see you, but if you can’t make it to the shop then you can find out more about the support available on our website or call us for free on 0300 303 1660.”
