On Saturday 7th September Dumfries Devorgilla Rotary Club are doing a Cyclathon Challenge for Myeloma UK.
The event is to be carried out in conjunction with Tesco at Cuckoo Bridge Dumfries where a group of cyclists will all take turns to try and cycle the distance from Dumfries to Myeloma UK in Edinburgh. The 88 mile total distance is hoped to be completed with cyclists starting at 9am on Saturday 7th September in the foyer at Tesco.
All the money raised will be donated to Myeloma UK. Myeloma is a blood cancer arising from plasma cells which is incurable. Around 24,000 people are living with myeloma at any one time in the UK. This includes Devorgilla Rotary member Robert Sommerville who was diagnosed in 2015 and continues to live life to the full. This has been with the help of the work carried out by Myeloma UK and this year Robert has been part of a series of fundraising activities for the charity which have been cycling focused. The static cyclathon will continue the cycling fundraising theme. More information on Myeloma UK can be found on their website at www.myeloma.org.uk
The Rotary event is carried out in conjunction with Tesco and Devorgilla Rotary are very grateful for the assistance of Tesco and Community Champion Anne Croucher. Our picture shows Anne Croucher along with Robert Sommerville and Devorgilla President Bob Carruthers along with Rotarian Andrew Clark.
