Another success this week at the Ravenscraig Regional Sports Centre. QoS u16’s come out on top in a 4 team tournament that consisted of Lauderdale Girls and 2 teams made up of a selection of players from around Scotland hoping to secure football scholarships to America. Winning 2 games and drawing 1 without conceeding was enough to lift the trophy.

QoS u16’s travelled up to Townhead park, the home of Cumnock Juniors to play in the South West League Cup final against Ardrossan. With one of the youngest squads in the league (all first year u16’s or u14’s) QoS knew that the match against an experienced and older Ardrossan team was going to be tough.
The first half started at a frantic pace with QoS taking an early lead through Gracie after 8 minutes (1-0). Ardrossan hit back with 2 goals their own (1-2). QoS never let their heads drop with both teams continued trying to play good football. 10 minutes before half time Zara scored a vital equaliser to make it (2-2).
It was clear the game was going to be tight. Ardrossan were as we thought, a very good side.The next goal was going to be crucial. QoS got it on 62 minutes through a well worked goal by goal machine, Isla (3-2). The game was still in the balance. Nerves were being tested. The game got a bit scrappy with QoS battling against an Ardrossan onslaught. The Ardrossan equaliser finally came on 71 minutes (3-3). It was now all about holding on for QoS. The game finished (3-3) in normal time. Extra time and penalties loomed.
QoS recomposed themselves and pushed to take the lead, which they did very quickly off the restart. Marcie started the scoring by smashing the ball past the keeper and in off the post (4-3). Siân then quickly followed that up with a fine goal of her own (5-3). QoS now had control with Ardrossan heads starting to drop.
The second half of extra time started in the same vain as the first with QoS still managing to keep control. A further 3 goals from Charlie(2) and Siân scoring her brace saw the game out (8-3).
It’s fair to say that the (8-3) scoreline did not reflect the game, it was tight, it was a battle, with 2 teams, with great players giving their all, it was just a shame that someone had to lose.
Credit needs to go to the Ardrossan team and coaches for their play and sportsmanship right to the end. Even more credit needs to go to our girls who never give up, play their hearts out and leave everything out on the pitch.
