Courtesy the artist and SpazioA, Pistoia Cample Line are delighted to present murmur, buzz, hiss and rub, a new solo exhibition by artist Chiara Camoni (born 1974, Piacenza, Italy) that opened on Saturday, 5 October 2024.
The exhibition will bring together over 30 works by Chiara, from the monumental to the tiny, and includes three new works – two in ceramic – made using clays, soils and plant matter from Cample and nearby villages. murmur, buzz, hiss and rub also includes new work that has been inspired by local Cample species – spiders, frogs and creatures that attempt to make their home in or around Cample Water. Chiara is one of the foremost Italian artists of her generation, and she lives and works in the mountain village of Seravezza in Northern Tuscany, Italy.
Burning Sister, 2023, single-channel video, color, sound, 23’30’’> Courtesy of the artist and SpazioA, Pistoia Upstairs at CAMPLE LINE, Chiara will install the monumental Sister, 2023, built with threaded handmade ceramic beads and other terracotta and ceramic elements, around which she will gather a group of 17 Gioielli – tiny, jewel-like sculptures that reference spiders, small insects and winged creatures and are made by melting and recycling pieces of jewellery – and a set of six Vasi Farfalla or ‘butterfly vases’, including a new diptych glazed with clays and soils from around Cample and Penpont. On the ground floor, visitors will encounter Burning Sister, 2024, a new film by Chiara featuring a Sister form that she built outdoors using botanical matter whilst participating in Makryammos Ephemeral Art Residency in Thassos. Close by, a pair of 3m long ceramic snakes – Due Serpenti, 2024 – will animate the entrance space alongside a number of Grande Sorella, large necklace-like sculptures, and a set of three self-portrait drawings.
murmur, buzz, hiss and rub is Chiara’s first exhibition in Scotland, and is accompanied by a newly commissioned short essay by independent curator and academic Cecilia Canziani.

ENDS BIOGRAPHY Chiara Camoni (born Piacenza, Italy, 1974) lives and works in Seravezza, Italy. Chiara’s practice encompasses drawing, printing with plant dyes, video and sculpture, with particular attention to ceramics. She uses objects from the domestic world, organic materials such as herbs, berries, and flowers, as well as the different types of clay and ash she collects and she explores the relationships between craftsmanship and the spiritual sphere. She often develops her works in the company of friends and family and at impromptu gatherings or organised seminars and workshops. ‘ll Centro di Sperimentazione’ has been linked to her production for a number of years with various forms of shared authorship. Together with other artists, she founded MAGra, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Granara, and the Vladivostok group. In recent years, she has staged a series of seminars titled ‘La Giusta Misura / The Right Measure’, together with curator Cecilia Canziani. Recent solo exhibitions include Call and Gather. Sisters. Chiara will be one of the artists exhibiting in Manifesta 15 in Barcelona from September to November 2024.
