Glasgow Uni Feel The Wrath Of Saints Ladies – Rugby News

Saints ladies had a tremendous win on Sunday. Glasgow uni arrived at park farm with 12 players and with the ‘game on’ rules in the league meant saints had to match numbers.

From the kick off by Glasgow Uni Maggie Brown tore through the defence scoring under the posts Kelsie Smith knocking the conversion over 7-0. Kelsie herself then got on the scoresheet with 2 quick tries converting both 21-0. Stand in coaches Liam & Ross were screaming from the sidelines to work hard & keep taking the game to the Uni side. Kady Kirkpatrick was next to get on the scoresheet & guarantee the try bonus point. Kelsie again knocking over the conversion 28-0.

Some charging runs from Abbie Smith & Lucy Forteith up the middle of the park drew the defence in allowing Bryony Mccaw to break the line. Brodie Fergusson who was a thorn in the uni side all game then hit up & scooped the ball to Tamzin Corson who must of covered every blade of grass on the pitch to break three tackles & go over the whitewash! 33-0. Annabelle Hiddleston in her first game back after injury then got in on the act stealing the ball with a great jackel then bursting through the remaining defenders to score under the sticks Kady stepped up to knock over the conversion 40-0. Kady from the kick off rounded her opposite number to score out wide 45-0.

The Uni ladies came out all guns blazing & managed to get a try of their own 45-5 half time.

Words of encouragement from Development officer Dom Stewart & stand in coaches Liam & Ross as well as a few changes in the team followed. Bryony kicked off & the Saints ladies bounded down the field. Huge hit from Tamzin saw the ball spilled Emily Hunter spun it out to Annabelle who again broke through the defence to score yet again this time it was Tessa Nicholson who knocked over the extras 52-5. Next up we saw our youth international Louise Taperell run a great support line & catch a sublime offload from Tessa ‘Sonny bill’ Nicholson. Louise putting on the afterburners & running in from 55 metres then instantly asking to be subbed claiming ‘front rows aren’t meant to do this’ Tessa getting the conversion 59-5. Another big hit from Toni Anderson saw Kara Myatt pounce on the ball Brodie picked & went to the right Maggie supporting took a pass back inside to run in & get her second of the game Tessa with the conversion 66-5. Annabelle got straight back in on the act to complete her hat trick scoring again with Kelsie sealing the extras 73-5. We then saw our flying fullback again scoring a brace taking her tally to four tries & seven conversions for the match.

Final score 87-5 some real stand out performances but more importantly the team performance was excellent with the ladies improving every week. Back at home next week against Greenock would be great to see Saints ladies continue to charge on.
