The Musical, based on the 1868 novel of the same name by Louisa May Alcott. They will begin performances at The Brigend Theatre, Dumfries on Saturday 16 November.
After their highly successful sell-out run of Sunshine on Leith earlier this year, DMTC will bring to life the stories of the four March sisters: the oldest and most romantic, Meg (Maeve Reekie); the wild and adventurous aspiring writer, Jo (Caitlin Wallace); the timid and sweet, Beth (Sarah Rogers); and the youngest and headstrong, Amy (Tess Harper).
They live in Concord, Massachusetts, with their gentle and loving mother, Marmee (Alison Donnelly), while their father serves as a Union Army chaplain during the Civil War. Across the street lives the charming and mischievous young Laurie (Hamish Bremner), looked after by his cranky grandfather, Mr. Laurence (Neil Webster) and handsome tutor, Mr. John Brooke (Benjamin Johnston).
The show features a cast of eccentric characters, including German academic Professor Bhaer (John McIntyre), boarding house proprietress Mrs Kirk (Sharon FW Mitchell) and the girl’s wealthy Aunt March (Sharron Harper). Clarissa (Emma Thomas), Braxton (Eve Daniell) and Rodrigo (Rhianna McCrorie-Neil) are the larger than life characters within Jo’s stories.
This production marks the directorial debut of Valerie Wilson, who is supported by co-choreographers Erin Aitchison and Amy McCreadie, with the beautiful and moving score in the safe hands of musical director, Nick Riley.
Director, Valerie Wilson, can’t wait to share this production with audiences in November: “It’s been an absolute joy and a privilege to work with the cast and crew on this show. This is a wonderful story that stays true to the original by Louisa May Alcott and so will be familiar to many of our audiences. I’m so grateful to the incredible team who have been working so hard over the past few months to bring this production together, and I’m excited to share this with our audiences at our beautiful Brigend Theatre.”
DMTC will perform Little Women: The Musical at the Brigend Theatre, Dumfries from Saturday 16 November to Saturday 23 November from 7.30pm, with a matinee performance on Sunday 17 November at 2.30pm.
