After a week’s rest due to a cancelled game last weekend, Stewartry made the long trip north to face unbeaten top-of-the-table side Strathmore RFC.
With just 15 minutes to warm up after some lengthy roadworks delayed Stewarty’s arrival, the home side took advantage to come away with a 52-3 win.
Despite the short warmup, Stewartry started the game very well with a long spell of possession in the opposition half.
The Blacks drew first blood through fullback Andrew Picken who kicked his ninth penalty of the season to reward Stewartry for their impressive opening 10 minutes.
The away side continued to pile the pressure on Strathmore but were unable to take their
chances and get over the try line when they needed to. From there, the pendulum swung and it was the turn of the home side to have the possession.
Unlike their opposition, the hosts took their chances and scored some good tries out wide to race to a comfortable lead.
Big carries from the likes of forwards Andy Budde and Ty Wilson continued throughout the 80 minutes but the Strathmore defence held strong to give them all five points in Scottish National 4.
David Thomson’s side now have two home games to look forward to before the Christmas
break. Firstly a league matchup against Moray and then a local derby clash against National 2 side Newton Stewart in the Cup.
