Award-winner Lee is an inspiration to students

Dumfries and Galloway College (DGC) is thrilled to announce that Lee Bass has been honoured with the Crichton Foundation Award in recognition of his exceptional achievements and contributions to the college community.

The Crichton Foundation Award, supported by the Crichton Trust, is a distinguished accolade presented annually to a student who has demonstrated outstanding academic performance, leadership and a commitment to personal growth.

A hard-working and accomplished student, his exemplary dedication to his studies and his active engagement within the college made him a standout candidate for this year’s award.

Lee’s journey at DGC began in 2012 after leaving the army and starting a family. His HNC in Computing had to be put on hold due to illness, but he returned to the college to gain an HND in Coaching in Developing Sport and then completed a bachelor’s degree in Sport Development.

Fast forward to 2022, and Lee enrolled on to DGC’s Cyber Security HNC, achieving an A on his Graded Unit Exam, and subsequently progressing on to a Cyber Security HND. He is now attending the University of West of Scotland at Dumfries studying for his BEng (Hons) in Cyber Security.

His time at DGC has been marked by his unwavering commitment to achieving excellence. Beyond his academic accomplishments, he has been a positive influence on his fellow students, fostering a supportive and inclusive environment that embodies the college’s ethos of collaboration and mutual respect.

The Crichton Foundation, which has been a steadfast supporter of education in the region, created this award to celebrate students who demonstrate a passion for learning and a drive to make meaningful contributions to their community.

Lee’s remarkable achievements reflect the transformative impact of the foundation’s support and the high standard of education provided at Dumfries and Galloway College.

Joanna Campbell, Principal and CEO, Dumfries and Galloway College, said: “We are immensely proud of Lee for receiving this well-deserved recognition.
“As Lee embarks on the next chapter of his journey, Dumfries and Galloway College extends its warmest congratulations and heartfelt wishes for his continued success. His achievement stands as a source of inspiration for current and future students, showcasing the heights that can be reached through hard work and dedication.
“The Crichton Foundation Award celebrates individuals who not only excel academically, but also embody the values of perseverance, resilience and community spirit. Lee has set a shining example for his peers, and we are delighted to celebrate his success.”
