South Scotland MSP Colin Smyth has once again called on administrators to clarify the future of Dumfries’ Homebase store, following the news that ‘closing down’ signs have appeared at the Cuckoo Bridge branch.
In November it was announced that the DIY company had appointed administrators before CDS, which owns The Range homeware outlets, bought the majority of its stores out of administration.
However, the Dumfries branch appears to not be one of them but UK administrators Teneo have not confirmed a closure date for the shop.
Colin Smyth said: “It’s no secret that Homebase has struggled in recent years, as families cut back during the cost of living crisis and there has been no sign of them returning to making a profit.
“The fact that we’re almost two months on and the Dumfries store is still in a state of limbo, despite ‘closing down’ sale signs going up, is really not on.
“It appears this site was not one of the stores bought by the Range but it is important that staff at the store in Dumfries are given clarity by administrators as soon as possible, and support.
“Homebase has been a part of the retail offer in Dumfries for many years and there is no doubt that if it ultimately closes, it will be a big loss to local customers.”
