68 YEAR OLD LORRY DRIVER IN SERIOUS CONDITION AFTER M74 COLLISION NORTH OF GRETNA

 

 

A 68 year old  driver has been badly hurt in a crash on the A74M Glasgow – Carlisle motorway north of Gretna.

 

A 68 year-old man is in a serious condition in hospital following a road crash on the M74 earlier today, Thursday 12th February 2015.
Around 0410 hours this morning, police were called to a report of a road crash involving an articulated lorry which had overturned on the northbound carriageway of the M74 at junction 21 near Kirkpatrick.
Emergency services attended and the 68 year-old driver of the lorry was taken by ambulance to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary where hospital staff describe his condition at serious.
Inspector Darren Faulds of the Road Policing Department based at Motherwell Police Office said today:
“Road Police Department Officers are continuing their enquiries into the cause of the crash.

“The significant recovery operation is ongoing and officers have been working since the crash occurred this morning with other agencies, including Transport Scotland and the recovery company to turn the lorry. Work is now continuing to secure its heavy load to ensure that we avoid the damaged refrigerated container splitting open and its contents spilling out.
“We hope to re-open the road  this afternoon.”

“Meantime, police are patrolling the B7076 diversion route to make sure that traffic is flowing safely.”
