DUMFRIES CRICKET CLUB LEAVE PENRITH STUMPED

Stafforce Dumfries began the season with a confident performance against a highly regarded Penrith side defeating them by 1 run on Saturday.

Chris Bellwood shone with the bat in the 40 over match finishing on 99 not out and was supported by a solid performance from Alan Davidson with 47. After finishing with 213, Penrith was put into bat and were tied down for the first 12 overs by Niall Alexander and Alan Davidson taking a wicket each and leaving Penrith at 2 for 28 after 10. The remaining Penrith wickets were shared between Chris McBride, Scott Beveridge and overseas amateur Josh Forsyth. Penrith battled through but lost wickets at regular intervals and were 10 down after scoring 22 from the final over before falling short of the target by 1 run. Dumfries nearly snatched defeat from the jaws of victory but overall a deserved win for the Nunholm outfit.

This weekend sees two more preseason home match’s against Fergulsie and Keswick on Saturday and Sunday from 1 pm
