Galloway Mountain Rescue Team were called outon27th April 2015, by Police Scotland to search for an overdue walker who had failed to return after a walk on the Merrick. The walker was traced safe and well.
About 8.40pmonMonday 27thApril 2015, fourteen personnel from Galloway Mountain Rescue were mobilised from Newton Stewart and Castle Douglas after a55year old man from the North of England didn’t return to Bruce’s Stone Car Park at Loch Trool.
Team Leader Ken Mackenzie who co-ordinated the search said, “The conditions on the Merrick were wintry and deteriorating.We met the over due walker’s companion at Bruce’s Stone and team members started a search on the popular ‘tourist route’ path to the summit. At about10.40pmthemissingwalker was found safe and well being escorted down the path by two forestry workers.”
The Merrick is the highest peak in the South of Scotland at 843metres. Weather conditions can be very changeable at this time of year and its not uncommon to experience 3seasons in a few short hours.
