Organisers of the RSAC Motorsport Scottish Rally started the run up to the 70th event with a stand at the SRUC Barony Campus Open Day.
Deputy Clerk of the Course, Garry Headridge said, “This is a great day for the rally and we are happy to be part of such a good family event at the Barony Campus. We are looking forward to meeting lots of people today and to tell them about the forthcoming rally.”
Organisers were also joined by supporters of the Rally’s partner charity, Dumfries based, “The Usual Place”. Sales of their ‘Nith Beasties’ went well and they were pleased with the opportunity to raise awareness of the project to so many people.
The organisers were also grateful to Lewis Winder for lending his Junior 1000 Rally Micra. Although smaller than most of the other machinery on show, it proved a popular draw with many of the younger visitors. The New Talent Scholarship winner, Andy Struthers, was on competitive duties on the Jim Clark Reivers Rally and so mum, Moira was in attendance with the family’s Hillman Avenger road rally car.
The Open Day was an opportunity to let people know about the 2015 event. Assistant Clerk of the Course, Craig Webster talked about some new developments for the 70th rally. “We are very excited about being able to offer a brand new, never before rallied stage called, “Rivox” which is north of Dumfries near Beattock. This stage will feature a dedicated spectator area offering safe viewing of the stage. We are grateful for the help from the Forestry Commission Scotland for their assistance in creating additional dedicated spectator zones in Ae forest and at Castle O’er. Alongside the ever popular Heathhall stage, we will be encouraging spectators to use these areas for good, safe access to the stages.”
