Libraries across the Dumfries and Galloway are getting ready for children to explore some of the astonishing Guinness World Records Books and take part in a setting a new world record as part of the Tesco Bank Summer Reading Challenge Scotland 2015.
During the summer holidays children are encouraged to borrow and read six books from their local library in return for goodies such as zip tags, bookmarks, wristbands and fridge magnets. Every child who completes the challenge will be given a certificate and medal.
As part of this year’s Challenge libraries will be trying to help set a new Guinness World Records™ title for the Most Pledges Received for a Reading Campaign! Libraries are collecting pledges across the UK between Friday 10 and Monday 13 July – pledges in Dumfries and Galloway can be made in Stranraer Library.
To complete the challenge children have to collect stickers on the special fold-out poster as they discover weird, wonderful and wacky records from around the world in six different categories: Cool Tech, Way to Go!, The Big Stuff, Animal Magic, People Power and Action! Adventure!
Chair of the Council’s community and Customer Services Committee, Councillor Tom McAughtrie says;
“This is a great way of encouraging children to read over the summer holidays. It’s always very popular and encourages children and their families to visit our libraries. Our council is committed to providing the best start in life for our children in Dumfries and Galloway, and schemes like this help us achieve this.”
