Galloway V Callander – under 15s Thursday 13th August
Galloway U15’s took on Callander U15’s on what was a beautiful day down in Gatehouse.
Galloway skipper Tommy McGrath won the toss and elected to field and the Galloway youngsters soon set about taking wickets as opening bowlers Andrew Fry and Murphy Maxwell took a wicket each in their second overs. The two opening bowlers impressed in their 5 over spells with A. Fry taking 3 for 14 and M. Maxwell took 3-16.
The opening bowlers were further backed up by very good spells from Alison Fry, Sam King, Laura Scobie, Tom Mein and Tommy McGrath who took four wickets between them. The Callander batsmen found the Galloway bowlers very tricky to score runs off and run scoring was found even trickier with some superb fielding displays.
The catch of the day was as a result of Tommy McGrath leaping forward to catch a ball that was dropping on him quickly, but he got there and scooped the ball up one handed. A superb catch followed up by other catches from wicket keeper Gregor Hamblin, Murphy Maxwell and a superb slip catch from Andrew Fry. The last wicket fell on the last ball on the innings which was a smart piece of fielding again from Tommy McGrath who got himself a run out.
After 25 overs, Callander U15’s had set Galloway U15’s a total of 66 to win.
Galloway started off strongly scoring 12 off the first few overs before the first wicket fell. This sparked a small collapse to the top order and soon Galloway were 15-3, but this did not bother opener Alex Livingston who remained at the crease for the bulk of the innings. A very confident display from the young left handed opener seen her score 16.
Murphy Maxwell and Gregor Hamblin soon added 16 and 27 respectively through some hard hitting which brought the score well past the total of 66. A family connection came to the crease which saw brother Andrew Fry join sister Alison Fry which formed another terrific partnership. Alison batted very sensibly and Andrew remained not out at the end for an impressive and quick fire 14.
After 25 overs, Galloway U15’s had produced a total of 116, a very impressive total from the Galloway youngsters.
