THORNHILL KARTING ACE WINS ‘RISING STAR’ AWARD

13 year old Wallace Hall Academy pupil Cameron Thomson has picked up a 2nd prestigious award in less than 12 months. Less than a year since picking up The Ryan Dalziel award Cameron has been selected as a SMRC(Scottish motor racing club) rising star with a prize of a visit to the McLaren GT factory. Cameron said “I am honoured to have been selected as a rising star and represent Dumfries”.

Cameron has enjoyed a successful season since Graduating from Honda cadet class to Minimax class this year. The young driver won many accolades during his 3 years in karting including the Scottish S plate open Champion in 2013. Cameron loves his racing and also helping coach newcomers to the sport and helping develop their driving from his experience. Cameron said “it’s so good to give something back and help those starting out like I did 3 years ago”.

Cameron is proud to drive for Saltire Motorsport who have previously developed the talent of local McLaren GT driver Ross Wylie and Williams F1 test driver Susie Wolff.1 a 1 a freda 2

Cameron won the Ryan Dalziel award last season for the talented display on track and also his mature attitude off. The prize for this was to accompany Ryan at the first round of the World Endurance Championship at Silverstone this year and Ryan has encouraged Cameron’s considerable talent and potential.

This further accolade reinforces Cameron’s talent and potential in Scottish Motorsport and he can’t wait to see what the future holds for him.
