NFU Scotland has organised a number of events to take place this weekend to promote Scotch Lamb PGI to members of the public.
The events, running in conjunction with Quality Meat Scotland’s Love Scotch Lamb promotional weekend, over 5 and 6 September, are taking place across the country with further activity planned in the coming weeks.
The versatility of Scotch Lamb will be promoted at four events, with consumers asked to support Scotch Lamb.
Five restaurants in the Borders have committed to buying locally-sourced Scotch Lamb going forward and will be putting it onto their menus over September 5 and 6. Waiting staff will be donning aprons and t-shirts in support of the campaign and to help raise the profile of the tasty meat. Recipe cards and information about Scotch Lamb will be readily available for customers too.
Scotch Lamb will be showcased by NFU Scotland at Inverness Farmers Market from 10.30am until 1pm on Saturday 5 September when the product will be available for members of the public to try and there will be the opportunity to find out more information. It is being run in conjunction with Forbes Farm Fresh which will be cooking up the meat.
NFU Scotland will also be at the Scottish Airshow in Ayr on Saturday, with beef and lamb both available to consumers and farmers on hand for members of the public to speak to. The team will be at the event from 12pm and it is being held with support from local farmer Jay Crawford.
Consumers in the Falkirk area will also get the chance to try Scotch Lamb, beef and cheese at their local Aldi store from 11am to 1pm on Saturday. Local farmers will also be on hand to speak to the public.
Later this month, on Saturday 19 September, NFU Scotland will be heading for the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final in Oban when tasty Scotch Lamb will be served up to hungry punters during and after the match. This event will be held in conjunction with Food from Argyll.
NFU Scotland Board of Directors member Tom French, who will be attending the Falkirk event on Saturday, commented: “Farmers are rightly proud of what they produce, and events like these provide a platform for them to speak to members of the public and demonstrate the passion they have for putting food onto our nation’s tables.
“At this time of year Scotch Lamb is at its best and most plentiful. Our weekend of activity is a chance for farmers to speak to the public about farming and encourage them to try Scotch Lamb and support Scottish farmers by buying their produce.
“We always get a great response from shoppers who really appreciate finding out more about food production.”
