SEPTEMBER WILL BE ABSOLUTLY CLASSIC WITH ‘NORIKO OGAWA’ TOURING THE REGION

SEPTEMBER sees world-renowned pianist Noriko Ogawa kicking off an exciting season of classical music performances around the Dumfries and Galloway region.
1 a 1 a sara 61The Absolute Classics concert series begins this month and will once again showcase some of the finest stars of the genre. From strings to percussion, voice and opera, there’s something for everyone this season and it’s all taking place across the region until March 2016.
Noriko Ogawa’s piano playing was described by the Telegraph as “ravishingly poetic.” She is one of the world’s finest Debussy specialists and has appeared in concerts across the globe and with all the major European, Japanese and US orchestras.
Noriko is renowned as a recitalist and chamber musician with a long list of projects, recordings and performances to her name.
She appears this month in two concerts on the magnificent Bluthner pianos, loaned to Absolute Classics by Germany’s premier piano makers. The first at the Cally Palace in Gatehouse on Saturday, 26 September, at 7.30pm, where the programme will include Debussy, Images Book I; Beethoven, Appassionata Sonata Op.57; Ravel, Oiseaux Tristes (From Miroirs); Prokofiev, Sonata No.1, Op. 83; and Chopin, Scherzo No.2, Op.31.
On Sunday, 27 September, at 3.30pm, she moves to Thornhill where she will present a programme, including Ravel, Le Tombeau de Couperin; Kanno, A Particle of Water for piano and Myochin Hibashi Chopsticks; Debussy; Arabesque 1, A girl with Flaxen Hair, Clair de Lune; Chopin, Sonata no.2 Op.35 and Polonaise Op.53, at the Buccleuch and Queensberry Hotel.

Coming up in the forthcoming months, the international stars continue to shine with Hugh Wiggin, saxaphone, and Tim Abel, piano, in October at the Buccleuch Centre, Langholm, on Thursday, 22 October; Annan Academy Performing Arts Centre, on Friday, 23 October; the Cally Palace, Gatehouse, on Saturday, 24 October; and at the Buccleuch and Queensberry Arms Hotel, Thornhill, on Sunday, 25 October.
The amazing talent of the Dutch/British Ragazze String Quartet will provide a memorable experience in November and, in December, we spend a few nights at the opera with Opera Bohemia performing Amahl and the Night Visitors as a special Christmas treat.
