Stewartry moved up two second place in the BT west division two with a record 43-3 win over Strathendrick at Fintry.
The game was played in fine sunny conditions with the home team getting the better of the early exchanges although Stewartry Captain Tommy Cannon and no8 Martin Smith were to the fore for Stewartry with good attacking breaks.
The Stewartry scrum was dominant but the Blacks as is their want were still giving away to many penalties. Muir made a break through the middle with ten minutes to go until half time but his off load to winger Hamilton saw the winger put into touch just short of the try line. Stewartry stole the lineout and Porteous was driven over for the opening try. Hamilton was stopped just over the five metre line touching down too early Strathendrick clearing back up field. Stewartry were in command for the rest of the first half but could not add to their five points before half time.
Stewartry started the second half with more purpose Muir chasing a kick ahead forcing Strathendrick into a penalty award to Stewartry. Craig Mosey converted. Quarter an hour into the second half Martin Smith drifted through the Strathendrick defence to score and give Mosey an easy conversion 15-0. Five minutes after that Strathendrick scored from a penalty. This geed the Blacks up and scrum half David Thomson gave the backs more room to break the advantage line
.In the final twenty minutes Stewartry ran in a further four tries from John Kerr and a hat trick of tries for a second week in a row for club coach John Muir, all converted by Craig Mosey. Near the end a forty metre break by replacement Cunningham saw him denied a try pushed into touch at the corner.
A good result for the Blacks in an entertaining game with a referee who let it flow to the enjoyment of the spectators.
Stewarty’s next game 17th October at home to Paisley at Greenlaw kick off to be confirmed depending on world cup quarter final line up that weekend.
