As we pile on the woolly scarves and gloves with the festive season approaching, The Whitehouse Gallery invites you to come in from the cold to enjoy the last exhibition of the year. ‘Winter Warmer’ opens from 11am on Saturday 7th November and will be open until 31st December. All are welcome to attend the opening.
Although this exhibition carries no theme as such, it does feature work which celebrates the beauty of this time of the year, with a wide selection of Fine Artists and Craft Makers. There will be everything from wee stocking fillers right up to impressively bold statement pieces, and much in between, a wide selection of unique gifts to suit all budgets.
‘Winter Warmer’ will include gallery regulars alongside some new artists to the Whitehouse. Showing for the first time are Jackie Forbes Henderson, Gilly Beech, Heather M Nisbet and Morag Lloyds.
Jackie Forbes Henderson uses collage & acrylic to build up paintings with texture, form and colour. Her simplified scenes are inspired by everyday life, moments which go unnoticed in the fast paced world we live in. Also concerned with the simplification of shapes and forms is Morag Lloyds, although with a much more vivid palette, Morag draws inspiration from designs in the landscape to afternoon tea with friends.
Gilly Beech will be exhibiting a collection of winter mountain studies of notable landmarks such as the Cairngorms, whilst Heather M Nisbett takes inspiration from the landscapes and fishing ports of Dumfries & Galloway and the Scottish islands.
The Whitehouse Gallery are delighted to welcome back Deborah Phillips, who is known for her zingy and energetic mixed media landscapes. For this exhibition, Deborah will be embracing the title, with a collection of her sparkling winter scenes sitting alongside her warmer, more vivid landscapes. Not short on sparkle are the mixed media works which will be on display by Robert Ryan. His unique approach of mixing metals, crushed shells and other materials onto glass, creates work which changes its appearance as the light changes.
Helen Acklam will be exhibiting some of her enchanting mixed media works, where she creates 3d pictures within a frame, inspired from her travels to the Scottish Islands and the interaction between archaeology, geology, history, the sea and Norse mythology.. Fiona Millar will also be delivering a selection of her unmistakable, in demand still life and landscape works.
Claire West returns with her uplifting acrylic paintings which are alive with intense colours, subject matter ranging from landscape and still life to animal studies. Colour is also in abundance with Victor Henderson’s wonderful landscape and architectural watercolour paintings, whilst Penny McConchie is delivering a small collection of watercolour landscapes using a softer palette.
Janet Cleghorn is back with some of her still life work painted from an aerial view to give a different perspective to an otherwise straightforward composition. This new angle takes in the texture of the tablecloth as well as the new angle of objects such as cups, flowers and a plate of cakes.
Gwen Adair will also be delivering some of her painting, including figurative works which always tell a story and her still life which allow Gwen to indulge in her love of colour.
Pamela Grace will be bringing in a selection of her original paintings and framed etchings, capturing Galloway country life beautifully. Printmaker Lucy Hadley will also have a few of her framed prints on the walls.
There will be a large selection of craft and 3d work in this exhibition, with ceramic collections from Andrew Adair, Debbie Barber & Marc Fraser. There will also be textile birds by Hazel Moran, felted textiles by Lindsey Tyson, cushions by Jo Gallant, Jewellery by Sheena McMaster & Hazel Atkinson, Glass tealights and pictures by Jo Newman, hand engraved glass vessels by Mary Clare Cornwallis, Assemblages by Linda Lovatt and much more.
