Horrid history, ghostly goings-on and a sneaky peek into the newly refurbished Theatre Royal will all feature in a spooktacular Saturday fundraiser! In partnership with Scotland’s oldest working theatre, Dumfries-based paranormal investigators and tour guides, Mostly Ghostly Investigations, will present a spooky double-bill on Saturday 14th November from 7pm.
First up, the Dumfries Ghost Walk hits town; kicking off from Dumfries’ iconic Midsteeple in the High Street before exploring dimly lit streets and darkly atmospheric closes. Each absorbing account will be presented in the team’s own inimitable style with stories spanning hundreds of years of Dumfries’ dramatic history. The team aim to highlight the town in a new dark light, encouraging guests to think about the people and events that have made Dumfries the place it is today. As for the more ethereal side to their walk, the real-life investigators will offer a unique viewpoint on ghost-related matters.
From there, guests will be led to the Theatre where the first official event following extensive renovation work will take place. Mostly Ghostly will welcome guests into the atmospheric auditorium where they’ll give a talk revealing some personal experiences of the unexplained. The team will also cover their first memorable research visit at the Theatre and delve into eerie encounters reported by visitors.
Team founder Kathleen Cronie said: “The Theatre Royal has always been very dear to us and is a pivotal part of our history. We carried out our first official paranormal investigation there in 2008 and have since conducted a further three investigations, presented a paranormal event and launched a successful Haunted Theatre Tour which returns next year. We’re delighted to be supporting our friends at the Guild and encourage lots of people to come along and join in the fun!”
She continued: “We’re passionate about partnership working and aim for the evening to be a joint celebration, bringing people together to learn about our town’s history and local ghost stories including eerie tales connected with this magnificent historic gem. We hope our event will inspire guests and promote a keen interest in Dumfries, encouraging them to return to the Theatre after its much anticipated re-opening.”
Team member John Hill said: “We’re really excited about the fundraiser which we organised to help the Theatre put a few finishing touches in their beautifully refurbished building. The Theatre team have put an immense amount of work in during this period of intense change and we wish them every success opening the next chapter in their illustrious story.”
Giving her views on the event, Anne Aldridge, Master of the Guild said: “We are very grateful to the Mostly Ghostly team for organising this fundraising event to support the newly refurbished Theatre Royal. We wish them well with their tour and look forward to their reaction to the new building. We are proud of our association with the team and look forward to working in partnership them in the future.”
Summing up, Kathleen said: “If you like your history chilling, tales spooky and enjoy spending time in haunted historic properties, this is an essential date for your diary!”
