Indecent approaches – Dumfries
Police Officers in Dumfries are investigating two approaches to women in the town by a man who made indecent remarks to them of a sexual nature. In the first incident, which happened at around 1715 hours on Tuesday 3 November 2015 near to the Spar Shop on Whitesands in Dumfries, a 40 year old female was approached by a man who made indecent suggestions to her. The female did not engage with the man who then walked off. This man is described as being 17/18 years of age, about 5’5″ tall, average build with short dark hair. He was wearing a white coloured top, black Adidas jogging bottoms and blue trainers. He spoke with a local, polite accent.
The second incident happened at around 1830 hours on Wednesday 11 November 2015 in Terregles Street at the junction with King Street in Dumfries. On this occasion a 25 year old woman was approached by the following described man who made indecent sexual suggestions to her. He is described as being in his early 20s, 5’2″ tall, slim build, short dark hair and was wearing a grey hooded top with dark coloured jogging bottoms.
Constable Victoria Urwin at Dumfries said “We are unsure at this time if these two incidents are linked. Whilst some of the details of the suggestions are similar in content, the descriptions of the men do vary, and as such we are keeping an open mind. We are interested in hearing from any other women who may have had a similar approach, or indeed anyone who may be able to help us identify the man, or men responsible. Police at Dumfries can be contacted through 101. It is important to stress that neither woman was injured in any way in these approaches however were left in a state of shock.”
