Dumfries Women in the Spotlight for Annual Business Conference

Women were in the spotlight as more than 200 business leaders gathered in Holyrood for this year’s Business in the Parliament Conference.

SNP member Joan McAlpine took Jacquie Brown, founder of BreakFree Coaching and Jacquie’s Beauty in Dumfries, as her special guest.

Ms McAlpine, who sits on the economy committee, chaired a workshop on women’s entrepreneurship and said that Jacquie was a prefect example of the “entrepreneurial spirit.”

Commenting, the South Scotland MSP said:

“It was fantastic to see so many women represented at this year’s event.

“It was my pleasure to take Jacquie as my guest – she is a fantastic role model for other female entrepreneurs looking to start up their own businesses.”

Guests were treated to keynote speeches from FanDuel co-founder Lesley Eccles and ERIBÉ Knitwear founder Rosemary Eribé at the two day event, focussing on the theme of ‘opportunities for growth – Scottish business priorities for 2020’.

Ms McAlpine said:

“The Business in Parliament Conference is a great opportunity for business people and politicians from across all of Scotland with different experiences, talents and ambitions to come together to explore the key issues which will drive our future economic and business success.

“Everyone attending shares a common goal, we all want a Scotland that grows and prospers. It is important that we work together, rise to the challenges and maximise the opportunities for business here in Scotland.”
