A Council apprentice was recently announced as runner up in the Apprentice of the Year awards run by APSE (Association for Public Sector Excellence).
Warren Hill, an apprentice joiner with DGFirst’s Building and Maintenance Services, was selected as a finalist from apprentices the length and breadth of the UK. He is in the third year of his apprenticeship, working at the Stewartry depot. He joined the Council after being made redundant by his previous employer. Since joining the Council, Warren has been recognised as an excellent student.
Warren said, “I was pleased to be nominated and absolutely delighted to be named as a finalist. So, it was a real achievement to come second from all the entries across the UK. I’m really keen to develop my skills as a joiner and it shows all the support and help that I’ve had from the Council’s DGFirst that I was runner-up in the APSE Apprentice of the Year awards.”
Councillor Archie Dryburgh, chairman of DGFirst Management Committee, said,”Warren’s outstanding achivement shows that our Council’s DGFirst is providing first class apprenticeships, which provide excellent opportunities for people entering the local workforce. Congratulations to Warren and thank you to all those who have supported him in developing his career as a joiner.”
