Sporting individuals and sports clubs in Annandale and Eskdale have benefited through thousands of pounds of funding in recent weeks to support sporting performance and club development.
Seven awards totalling £1,450 have been presented for various amounts to individuals and clubs across Annandale and Eskdale from the Annandale and Eskdale Area Committee Sports Grants programme.
The nine grants included:
South of Scotland Tennis Tournament received £500 ( Main Photo) towards the delivery of the annual tennis tournament in Moffat which attracts over 200 tennis players from far and wide and brings economic benefits to the area. Ben Ewart from Langholm received £200 to help towards competition costs and his further development in the sport of Trampolining. Ben has not long since returned from the invite only Tracks 2000 Trampoline League Finals at the Copper Box in London’s Olympic Park where he finished 5th at the year’s finals event. Sophie Dodd from Gretna received £150 towards her ongoing swimming development and costs associated with attending a ten day warm weather training camp in Tenerife. (pictured with Councillor Ronnie Ogilvie at Annan Swimming Pool)
Nicole and Ava Simpson from Lochmaben received £150 each to support their swimming development and costs associated with attending a swimming camp with Dumfries Amateur Swimming Club in Bangor, Northern Ireland. (pictured with Councillor Ronnie Ogilvie at Annan Swimming Pool)
Hannah Caven and Kennedy Kirk from Lochmaben both received £150 towards the costs associated with competing for the Solway Stars Ice Skating Team at British and European Competitions.

Chair of Annandale and Eskdale Area Committee Ronnie Ogilvie said “We are delighted that we are able to support so many sports clubs and individuals from Annandale and Eskdale as they strive to develop and improve. Sports clubs play a vital role in our community and are behind many of the high performing athletes we are seeing more of in recent times”.
