To celebrate National Library Day on Saturday 6 February, Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Library Service is launching Read, Write, Count in every branch.
This new campaign is aimed at children in Primary 1 to 3 and encourages parents and families to include reading, writing and counting in their everyday activities, such as walking around the supermarket or travelling home from school.
All libraries throughout Dumfries and Galloway have special free and fun Read, Write Count materials including stickers, library card holders and treasure hunts to help children and families develop a love of reading, writing and counting.
Councillor Tom McAughtrie, who is Chair of the Community and Customer Services Committee commented;
“Giving children the best start in life is a key priority for our Council. Schemes like Read, Write, Count are a key way in which we can achieve this. It’s a great time to launch the scheme, to tie in with National Library Day on Saturday. I would encourage everyone to get to their local library this weekend and see what’s available – there’s much more than a pile of books to keep the whoel family interested.”
