STEWARTRY 33pts McLAREN 0pts.
It turned into a successful Saturday at Greenlaw the Stewartry Sirens had organised a Ladies day in the clubhouse and the Stewartry finished convincing 33-0 winners over early league leaders McLaren.
A strong easterly wind made things difficult for the kickers as it blew across the pitch and it was the visitors who started the stronger with the early play contained in the Stewartry half and mostly in the Blacks 22. Good strong defence kept McLaren down to few scoring chances even missing a penalty kick in twenty minutes. This sparked Stewartry into life with first Farquhar then Kerr setting Austin free down the left wing. Not to be outdone Muir and Picken on the right wing broke through a number of tackles to reach the McLaren 22 for the first time after twenty six minutes. Picken gained possession from a kick ahead and broke clear to set up Mosey who put McCulloch and Cannon into the five metre area for Martin Smith to crash over for the opening try. Mosey converted.
Three minutes later Farquhar went free from a scrum pick up passing to Muir he collected the return pass and scored number two try between the posts. Mosey added conversion. Five minutes to half time after McLaren had kicked dead Stewartry won the scrum back and Austin gained possession and set off with Smith and McCulloch for McCulloch to score number three. Mosey converted. Half time 21-0 to Stewartry.
The second half started with some good Stewartry back play and in four minutes Muir coasted in for the bonus point fourth try. Stewartry were now in command and constant pressure on the McLaren line gave number eight Martin Smith his second try in the corner. Mosey converted the fifty third minute score.
Stewartry brought on all their replacements to keep the score line to nil as Stewartry ran out worthy winners.
The result moves Stewartry another point further ahead of Annan who beat Strathendrick 17-7 in the promotion race Stewartry now fourteen points ahead but Annan have three games in hand. This week Stewartry are away to third place Cumnock while Annan are at home to Waysiders Drumpellier.
