Three fencing members from ‘Stewartry Fencing Club’ competed at the ‘Dundee Dual’ epee fencing competition in Dundee during March.
Ross Gibson, Poppy Drysdale & Amber Wright were in teams of four with various athletes from across Scotland in this ‘one hit epee.’ It was a full day from 10am – 4.30pm and the fencers were competing against mixed teams & male only teams of all ages. Poppy Drysdale was delighted with an overall 3rd place in the school section and a female ranking of 10th overall in the women’s section. Poppy’s team, made up of two fellow tetrathletes & pentathletes named themselves ‘Fleche & Bones’ & won best team name.
Poppy Drysdale was also 3rd individual last October at the ‘Yorkshire Pentathlon National Fencing Competition’ in her age group. Amber Wright came 10th in the school aged section in Dundee & Ross Gibson came 30th overall in the male adult section.
We continue to fence on a Thursday night at Clareband Hall & are always keen to introduce new members so do turn up even for a look. We thank Brian McMiken, ex member of the Scottish Team, for his regular training, support & advice as well as Craig Smith Fencing for continued sponsorship.
