Police Scotland is investigating the cause of a fire which was discovered at around 0200 hours on Sunday 3 April 2016 in the flats at Bluebell Court in Ecclefechan. At that time the householders in one of the flats were awoken by a fire alarm and then discovered a fire in rubbish bags outside their front door. The occupants of the flat used water to douse the flames and the fire was eventually extinguished by the Fire and Rescue Service.
Constable George Clark at Lockerbie said “this appears to have been a deliberate act and could have had catastrophic consequences had the occupants of the flat not discovered the fire when they did. We want to hear from anyone who saw or heard anything which might help us catch whoever is responsible for this wicked and reckless act. Anyone with any information should call us at Lockerbie on the 101 number, or if they want to remain anonymous then on the Crimestoppers number of 0800 555 111.”
