An award of £500 has been presented by Kirkcudbright’s Inner Wheel to Kirkcudbright Skatepark to help support young people’s hopes to have a skatepark facility at Gartshore Park, opposite the community swimming pool.
Inner Wheel is a worldwide organization founded on friendship, personal service and international understanding. Kirkcudbright Inner Wheel meet once a month to enjoy each other’s company and plan future fundraising. The meetings include information and entertainment on worldwide matters by key speakers, and discussions about which charity to support. The local group have helped many local organisations, such as MacMillan Nurses and Parkinson’s Disease as well as overseas charities including Life for African Mothers’ for which bundles of baby clothes were sent, many sewn and knitted by members.
Kirkcudbright Skatepark is now a fully constituted group and registered Scottish Charity (SCO46405) and this May marks a year from when young committee members kick started the campaign, by skateboarding and scootering the length of Kirkcudbright Half Marathon, with the spectacle attracting much attention including a television news crew.
President of Inner Wheel, Linda Kinnell, said;
“We are delighted to be involved in supporting the building of a skate park in Kirkcudbright, for which we raised money from a stall at Moat Brae last summer, by selling home baked cakes, pastries and jam; and home grown garden produce.
“The Wednesday Walking Club also lent their support by ending their walk at the house of President Linda Kinnell,, where they enjoyed coffee and refreshments provided by the ladies of our Inner Wheel Club, for a small donation”.
Chairman of Kirkcudbright Skatepark, Alan McClure, said;
“We are absolutely delighted to receive such a generous donation from Kirkcudbright’s Inner Wheel and would like to thank all of their members for their consideration and work to provide this. The skatepark will provide a safe, outdoor space for those on wheels of any kind and also a great, social space for adults and it’s wonderful to have this kind of community support backing the project”.
If you are interested in supporting, have any suggestions or wish to attend the Kirkcudbright Skatepark Committee please contact the Chairman, Alan McClure on [email protected] or message the committee via the facebook page ‘Kirkcudbright Skatepark’.
