Local MSP Emma Harper has spoken of the importance of supporting women-led businesses during a visit to a recently opened health food store in Newton Stewart.
Ms Harper met with Tabetha Davis-Edmonds, the owner of ‘Alternative Root’ on Saturday to hear about how her business can create employment and contribute to economic growth locally.
Ms Harper commented:
“Tabetha is a committed and impressive business woman as well as a registered Dental nurse.
“I really enjoyed visiting her shop at the weekend and picked up some lovely organic peanut butter and green pesto which I’m looking forward to sampling. Her shop also sells bags of Indian spices ranging from mild, moderate to hot and premixed spices to help make home- made food preparation easier for budding chefs. The spice mixes are made up by another local company called South west spice which is women led too.
“The government has promised to encourage growth in the number of women-led businesses to boost the economy, by implementing the Women In Enterprise Action Framework.
“Tabetha and other business women would also be eligible to apply to a £100’000 investment fund for women led start-ups which was launched in April by Petra Wetzel, creator of Glasgow brewery West, and I would be happy to lend my support to eligible applications.
Ms Davis-Edmonds added:
“I am thrilled that Alternative Root is up and running and was pleased to welcome a local MSP to our newly opened store. It is a very exciting time. I believe that the business adds real value to the community by providing healthy, affordable products as well as further employment opportunities.
